Intervju med Dalai Lama om Peace Education

Under sista veckan i skolan gör man ändå ingenting vettigt, så jag drog till Island. Hmm.. varför Island av alla platser, de har ju inte ens tunnelbana? Förutom att hänga med tjocka släkten, så hade jag ett annat mål. Dalai Lama var i Reykjavik, och jag hade bestämt mig för att fråga vad han tänker kring Fredsutbildning, eller som vi så gärna väljer att kalla det, Peace Education.

Under högtidliga förhållanden i Reykjavik fick jag möjlighet att ställa min noga genomtänkta fråga till His Holyness the Dalai Lama.

"Is peace education important? And on which level should it be implemented: for all on elementary level or as a university course?"

Jag tänkte att han skulle svara "Yes, it is imoprtant and should be thought everywhere"

I stället pressade han eftertänksamt ihop läpparna och sa: "Hm, that I have some sort of strong opinion." Efter dessa ord följde ett svar på min fråga som var hela 12 minuter långt!

Där satt självaste Dalai Lama med en röd golfkeps och delade med sig av allt han hade att säga angående peace education. Självklart vill jag nu dela med mig av dessa visa ord. Vi är ju trots allt a peace education organization ;)

"Our modern education system, I think we pay much attention about brain development, but not pay equal attention about our own heartfulness or moral etics. So I think we are lacking that."

"I think you should pay more attention about developing a good hearts, and then accordingly you also tach your student, educate them in the impostance of warm hartness. This is not something that is holy or luxery but nececities. For happy viewpoint, for happy family, happy community, happy individual our own hartnes is given. So that I think is very important to educate"

Han tog en paus, såg ut över människorna i rummet och skrattade.

"Oh, then peace."

"Although the same meening of non-violence and peace. But I think the word non-violence is more stronger. "

                                                         "Non-violence is the action of    compassion"

"More love and more compassion, then your attitude would be non-violence"

"Non violence and violence is very much based on motivation. With wiked motivation a smile and praising using nice words and with some gift, is essentially violence, beacuse your motivation is trying to cheat, trying to harm.

So other hand, good parents good teachers, sometimes have to take some harsh action in order to help your children, your student. And harsh words that appear violent is essentially non-violence, because these harsh words, harsh action are made out of compassion, out of sence of concern."

"So ultimetly violence and non violence is much based on motivation, compassion and motivation. So therefore non-violence is an action of compassion"

"Non-violence and compassion is acually anciant indian thought, so therefore I consider myself as an messenger of ancient indian thought"

Han blev tyst en stund. Sen var det som att han förvandlades till Yoda i Star wars då han sa: 

"So right from the beginning, avoid using force"

Dalai Lama delade också med sig av sina tankar kring världens (ex)mäktigaste man, George Bush.

"I love him, I meen he is a preson, a verry nice person"

Det blev lite konstig stämning i rummet. Han berättade också om hur han skrivit brev till Bush efter 11 september 2001 och bett honom att inte bruka våld för att lösa detta problem. Stämningen lättade något.

"One occation, in our meeting, I told him: - I love you, but some of your policies I have some great reservation" 

Då började alla skratta.

"How I talk to my friend Bush is a good example of non-violence. Therefore we have to promote the non-violence concept, through education, is verry important"

"Students should get such an attitude that as soon as they see some conflict they´ll emedietly respond, in their mind, of how to slove this problem through dialog."

"Usually as soon as we see some conflict, some problems we first respond in how to solve it, using force. Like us , who do not use force, then there is no other way accept from non-violence (Laughing)

People who have power in using violence, but don´t risk using violence that is truly a non violent action, isn´t it?"

"So compromise, dialoge in human society, very important"

Jag var helt lyrisk över att sitta där och lyssna på Dalai Lama säga så fina saker. Han avslutade också snyggt med att säga att Peace Education ska läras ut till alla, från och med dagis.
